Today while in the car to run a few errands Miss A and I were listening to
KTIS and there was a song with "Jesus" in it. Miss A and I have talked about God and especially with Christmas we talked about baby Jesus. So I hear this sweet voice in the backseat ask me this:
Miss A: "Who is Jesus?"
Me: (Oh man where do I begin) "Jesus is God's son."
Miss A: "Like baby Jesus?"
Me: "Yes baby Jesus was God's son and grew up and then went to heaven to be with God"
Miss A: "Like my fishy?" (The one that died only days after we got it for her birthday)
Me: "Yes."
Miss A: "Did God take my other
fishies?" (The two that we replaced the first one with)
Me: "No, but God made those
fishies for you and he made Miss A and mama."
Miss A: "Oh."
And that was it. That was all she needed to know and then she was content. It is so fun to be the teacher.
This was kind of eye opening for me realizing that the older she gets the more complex her questions are going to get especially about
religion. Although I grew up in a Christian home, I still feel like I'm still in the very beginning stage of my faith. Up until a few years ago one of my top
priorities was not God and I've never been good at learning things that I'm not
interested in. I also don't have the sharpest memory so things like memorizing bible verses never came easy to me. Being that I have wanted to stay home with Miss A and she has always been a mama's girl I've never been able to become involved with bible studies or anything, but I feel like she is finally to the point where I could probably leave her for a little while with my parents and possibly do a "Bible Basics" course at my church. I don't know all the details and still haven't talked to my parents about it, but it is something I am going to look into.
If you have ever had your child ask a challenging question or have said something
embarrassing I would LOVE to hear it! *grin*
